Airport
What's wrong with Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport?
As quoted in Dutchhasterdam,
"..Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport is the first airport in the world to deploy full-body scanning machines.."
Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport has begun using a new body-scanning machines at security checkpoints, the first major airport to use the technology to find metals and explosives hidden under clothing. Schiphol also is one of the world’s most modern airports, with flat-panel screens, airport-wide Web access, and iris-scanners already on offer to those who want to bypass passport lines.
And become populer discussion through slashdot.org,
T-Ray Camera Sees Through Clothes, Preserves Privacy
"...that are claimed to use Terahertz radiation ("T-rays") to detect foreign objects under clothing, without revealing body details, from a distance of 25 meters and while the subject is in motion.."
So how should we design security procedures in airport, is still a challenge for security related auditor
13 tips how to avoid airplane hijack
- Travel with an airline that has no or few political enemies.
- Do not wear Army or ex-Army clothing.
- Do not carry on your luggage in Army issue bags or rucksacks.
- If the plane is hijacked, keep quiet and don't draw attention to yourself.
- Observe the terrorist's activities very carefully. If you do escape, you'll be able to help secure forces.
- Stay in tourist class. 'Neutral' seating in tourist class is less likely to attract attention than first class. If the terrorists wish to show their determination, they may shoot hostages, and these are likely to have been chosen from passengers who are obviously important.
- If kept in close quarters with a hijacker, talk about your own and his family. Making yourself a real, normal person in his eyes will be better. Don't talk politics.
- If you can feign symptoms of sickness and keep it up, you may be released in an interim deal.
- Don't wear religious or other insignia. The hijackers may not share your beliefs! No T-shirts with political slogans either!
- Travel in loose, comfortable clothing. If you are hijacked you'll have to keep yourself cool, clean and healthy for some time. Play mind games to keep yourself sane.
- Don't carry military documents on board. Pack them in your main luggage. If a hijacker finds out you're connected, you'll be singled out for rough treatment.
- If the aircraft you are on is hijacked the best way to stay alive is not to attract attention. When hijackers make their move, they are looking for opposition. Anyone who looks like they're trying to stop them is likely to be shot.
- Keep your eyes open, your mouth shut... and don't volunteer for anything!

Canada Airport Security Tips and Procedure 2007
Every country has its own security procedure for the airport. The Government of Canada recently issue a new airport security procedure called the Passenger Protect Program, are in place at Canadian airports effective June 18, 2007.
Detail Program:
- All passengers 12 years of age or older are required to have one piece of government-issued photo ID or two pieces of government-issued ID without photo.
- All passengers 12 years or older will be screened against a no-fly list, called the Specified Persons List. The list includes the name, date of birth and gender of individuals who may pose an immediate threat to air security.
- For all flights departing Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal for the U.S., duty free liquids, gels and aerosols must be transferred to checked luggage before a passenger proceeds through the screening process. These airports have pre-clearance services for duty free items.
- For all other Canadian flights bound for the U.S. and the U.K. duty free goods like these may be available depending on the airline but passengers will only receive their purchases at the end of the flight. Travelers are urged to check with airlines in advance.

Security tips when travelling by airplane
Travelling by airplane would be very nice, since its offer fast and saving time compare to other type of transportation. However you should play more attention to this procedure when travelling by airplane or at airport. Here's a list, tips from Transportation Security Administration.
- As you wait in line at the security checkpoint, place all metal items in a carry-on bag and take laptops and video cameras out of their cases.
- To minimize the risk of damage or loss, don’t pack fragile or valuable items in checked baggage.
- Take them with you in carry-on baggage, or ship them to your destination instead.
- Put undeveloped film in carry-on baggage because equipment used to screen checked baggage will damage film. Also, high-speed and specialty film should not be put through X-ray machines, so passengers may ask screeners at the checkpoint to physically inspect film.
- You are NOT REQUIRED to remove your shoes before you enter the walk-through metal detector. However, TSA screeners encourage you to remove them because many types of footwear – including boots, platform shoes, and footwear containing metal or having a thick sole or heel – will require additional screening even if the metal detector DOES NOT alarm.
- Do not wear jewelry, shoes or clothing that may set off metal detector alarms.

Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali Indonesia doesn't meet the security standard
I'm very surprised hear report from TSA (Transportation Security Administration) of US Government that said Bali Airport does not meet the security standards of the International Civil Aviation Administration. And I'm getting more surprised reading this from wikipedia, the website read by million of people and sometimes used as primary source of information.
Absolutely Bali is more famous than Indonesia, the beautiful paradise island, beach and sea. Many tourist visit Bali every day for its beautiful view and nice people. And knowing that this airport doesn't meet the international standard makes me sad. I think Indonesia government should become more serious repairing Indonesia image to the world.
